Marketing that works

An 8-week course for your small business

Through this practical course you will review your current situation, understand your market, know how to talk to your target audience, and make a marketing plan and effective materials that will reach your market and bring them to you.

In four practical sessions, we explain key marketing concepts, techniques and tools and then work with your real-life scenarios so you go away each time having started the work. In between teaching sessions we work together and continue putting what you’ve learnt into action for your business.

  • Workshop 1: Understand your market
    Without someone who wants to buy what you’re selling, all you’ve got is a nice idea, not a business. We show you how to find the market for your product (who are they), how to reach them (where are they) and how to sell to them (what do they want), as well as how to stand out amongst the crowd.
  • Workshop 2: Define your brand and message
    A clear, strong brand is a shortcut to telling people who you are so you can get straight to the finer details of your message. We show you how to convey your values through your brand and use it to build trust, then how to sell the benefits of what you’re offering so your audience are convinced of what’s in it for them.
  • Workshop 3: Make an effective plan
    For your marketing to work, you need a strategic plan which considers both new and existing customers. We show you how to create a plan that will deliver the numbers you need, by attracting, converting and retaining customers, including plans for short term wins and longer term goals.
  • Workshop 4: Make marketing that works
    Anyone can make a piece of marketing – not everyone can make one that works. We show you the principles of making effective off and online marketing and then how to set up and improve your printed materials, website, email and social media so they deliver results.

Structure: 4 x 2-hour in-person workshops + working sessions

Location: Forest training rooms, Coleford (online by arrangement)

Price: £175 per person (max 6 per course to ensure dedicated support)

Marketing cafes

Our co-working marketing cafes happen the week after each teaching session and are a chance to work together putting what we’ve covered into practice, sharing ideas, asking questions, resolving issues and supporting each other.


Course materials

The workshops use live delivered presentations, practical exercises with worksheets and additional resources. You will be sent copies of the presentations as videos and PDFs to refer to, editable copies of the worksheets for future use and downloads of additional resources.
